Optical / Lens Modules

Airtightness Testing for Optical Lens Assemblies, Camera Modules & Precision Optics

Optical assemblies fail in the field not from glass breakage but from fogging — moisture ingress past a compromised adhesive or gasket seal. Figurtech's micro-volume differential pressure systems validate the airtightness of lens modules, camera housings, and precision optical assemblies at ±0.5% repeatability, at production-line speed.

The Manufacturing Challenge

Optical lens modules present the most demanding combination of constraints in leak testing: extremely small internal volumes (often under 1 mL), tight leak specifications to prevent fogging, fragile assemblies that cannot tolerate over-pressurization, and high-throughput multi-unit pallets requiring simultaneous testing. Standard instruments designed for automotive or electronics are too coarse to reliably detect the relevant leak rates.

  • Smartphone and tablet camera modules: adhesive seal, gasket, and lens mount integrity
  • Surveillance and security camera housings: IP-rated enclosure plus optical interface seal
  • Automotive camera and LiDAR sensor modules: thermal cycling and vibration-resistant sealing
  • Medical endoscope optics: fluid ingress prevention in sterilization environments
  • Industrial machine vision lenses: dust and humidity exclusion, long service life

Recommended Instruments

Series Best for Key capability
LM Series Multi-unit lens module pallets 4-channel simultaneous, micro-volume fixture, ±0.5% repeatability
LD Series Single-station precision validation 0.01 kPa differential resolution, noise rejection, low-pressure capable
LY Series Ruggedized optical housings at higher pressure 0.1 Pa resolution, wide pressure range for IP-rated camera enclosures

Typical Applications

  • Smartphone camera module (4-channel): LM 4-channel simultaneous test, micro-volume fixture nest, 10-second cycle — 100% inline on assembly conveyor
  • Surveillance camera housing: LD differential pressure, IP66-equivalent airtightness validation, low-pressure (30–50 kPa) with noise rejection
  • Automotive LiDAR module: LY direct pressure, combined optical interface and housing seal test, traceable per-unit data for automotive quality systems
  • Medical endoscope tip: LD sub-SCCM test at 20 kPa, custom soft-contact fixture to protect optical surface
  • Machine vision lens assembly: LM 2-channel, batch test of finished lens pairs before shipment to integrators

Why Figurtech for Optics?

  • Micro-volume fixture expertise: Custom nests for sub-milliliter optical cavities, soft-contact seals that protect coated surfaces
  • ±0.5% repeatability: Achieved and documented on optical lens module production lines — not a datasheet claim
  • 4-channel simultaneous throughput: Test four modules per cycle from one instrument — matches assembly conveyor speeds
  • Low-pressure precision: LD bridge compensation detects micro-leaks at pressures as low as 10–20 kPa without environmental interference
  • Calibrated standard leaks supplied: Fixture validation package includes calibrated leak holes at your specified leak rate
